Deputies voted by secret ballot. Following the prescribed procedures and based on vote-counting results, the National Assembly discussed and approved a resolution electing the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court for the 2026-2031 term.
Accordingly, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, a member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and incumbent Chief Justice for the 2021-2026 term, was re-elected to the position with 496 out of 496 deputies present voting in favor.

He then took the oath of office.
“Under the sacred red flag with a yellow star of the Fatherland, before the National Assembly, compatriots and voters nationwide, I - the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam - solemnly swear: to remain absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the people, and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; to strive and make every effort to fulfill the duties entrusted by the Party, the State, and the people,” Nguyen Van Quang declared.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, on behalf of the legislature, acknowledged the oath.
Nguyen Van Quang was born in 1969 in Hai Phong and holds a doctorate in law.
He is a member of the Party Central Committee for the 13th and 14th tenures, a Secretary of the Party Central Committee for the 14th tenure, and a National Assembly deputy for the 15th and 16th terms.
Throughout his career, he has held various positions within the procuracy sector, including Director of the Hai Phong People’s Procuracy, Director of the Department for Civil Case Supervision under the Supreme People’s Procuracy, and Director of the High-level People’s Procuracy in Ho Chi Minh City. He also served as Director of Department 3 in charge of economic crime prosecution, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, Standing Deputy Secretary and later Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, and Permanent Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate.
On November 4, 2025, the Politburo assigned him to join the Party Committee and Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Court, appointing him as Secretary of its Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term.
Later that month, at the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly, he was elected Chief Justice for the 2021-2026 term.
