Lawmakers approved the organizational structure of the new-term government, which will consist of 14 ministries and three ministerial-level agencies.

The National Assembly first heard a report presented by Nguyen Huu Dong, a member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, on the approval of personnel for vice chairpersons of the Ethnic Council, deputy heads of committees and full-time National Assembly members working within the council and committees.

Prime Minister for the 2021-2026 term Pham Minh Chinh then presented a proposal on the organizational structure of the government for the upcoming term.

Phan Chi Hieu, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Law and Justice, delivered a verification report on the proposed structure.

Following discussions, the National Assembly voted electronically to approve the organizational structure. All 488 deputies present voted in favor, accounting for 100 percent of those attending and 97.60 percent of the total number of National Assembly deputies.

Lawmakers then adopted a resolution on the government’s organizational structure, also with unanimous support among those present.

Under the approved framework, the government will comprise 14 ministries and three ministerial-level agencies: the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, along with the State Bank of Vietnam, Government Inspectorate and Government Office.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is not a member of the 14th Party Central Committee and is not a deputy of the 16th National Assembly.

The current government has nine deputy prime ministers. Among them, Pham Thi Thanh Tra and Ho Quoc Dung are members of the 14th Party Central Committee. Pham Thi Thanh Tra also serves as a Party Central Committee Secretary and is a deputy of the 16th National Assembly.

The remaining seven deputy prime ministers - Nguyen Hoa Binh, Tran Hong Ha, Le Thanh Long, Ho Duc Phoc, Bui Thanh Son, Nguyen Chi Dung and Mai Van Chinh - are not members of the 14th Party Central Committee.

Cabinet members who are part of the 14th Party Central Committee include Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Justice Nguyen Hai Ninh, Minister of Home Affairs Do Thanh Binh, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan, Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung and Acting Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son. All of them are deputies of the 16th National Assembly.

On the previous day, State Bank Governor Nguyen Thi Hong was elected as a Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly.

Ministers and agency heads who are not members of the 14th Party Central Committee include Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung and Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate Doan Hong Phong.
