Ho Chi Minh City plans to break ground on nine major transport projects around Vietnam's National Day, including Thu Thiem 4 Bridge and key gateway highway expansions.
The projects form part of the city's broader infrastructure investment program following the groundbreaking and inauguration of 13 major developments during celebrations marking April 30 and July 2 earlier this year.
Those projects, with combined investment of approximately VND575.179 trillion (about US$22 billion), span sectors including metro systems, expressways, seaports, social housing and education.
Gateway highways to be expanded

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, preparations are being finalized to ensure construction begins on schedule.
Among the most significant projects are three gateway national highway expansions to be implemented under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model through the city's special policy framework established under National Assembly Resolution No. 98.
Revised feasibility studies for all three projects have been submitted to the city's appraisal council, while the Department of Construction is coordinating with the Department of Finance and other agencies to complete the remaining procedures.
National Highway 13

The expansion of National Highway 13, from Binh Trieu Bridge to Vinh Binh Bridge, covers nearly 6 kilometers.
The road will be widened to 53-60 meters, while a 3.5-kilometer elevated roadway with four through lanes will be constructed above the existing route.
Service roads will remain below, and two underpasses will be built at major intersections.
The project has an estimated investment of VND21 trillion (US$810 million) and is expected to ease congestion at the city's northern gateway.

At the southwestern gateway, National Highway 1 will be upgraded between Kinh Duong Vuong Street and the border with Tay Ninh Province.
The 9.6-kilometer section will be widened from approximately 19 meters to 52 meters, creating an eight- to ten-lane roadway.
The project carries an estimated investment of more than VND15.8 trillion (US$610 million).
National Highway 22
The third project will expand National Highway 22 between the An Suong intersection and Ring Road 3.
The 9-kilometer route will be widened to 60 meters, with new overpasses at major intersections to improve traffic flow toward Tay Ninh Province.
Total investment is estimated at VND7.1 trillion (US$274 million).
Ring roads and logistics corridors
The city also plans to launch work on two sections of Ring Road 4.
These include the section from the Toc Tien–Chau Pha interchange to Chau Duc Bridge, including the bridge connecting to Dong Nai Province, and the section from the Saigon River to Thay Cai Canal, including Phu Thuan Bridge and Thay Cai Bridge.
Additional logistics infrastructure projects include the extension of Provincial Road 991B, linking National Highway 51 with the Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port access road, as well as the Cat Lai - Phu Huu Port Road, which will connect with the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.
These projects are intended to create dedicated freight corridors for container trucks, reducing congestion on local roads.
Thu Thiem 4 Bridge

The remaining projects scheduled to begin construction include completion of the Go Cong interchange and connecting roads linked to Ring Road 3, together with the long-awaited Thu Thiem 4 Bridge.
The bridge will connect southern Ho Chi Minh City with the Thu Thiem New Urban Area across the Saigon River.
Unlike earlier proposals involving private investment, the project is expected to be funded by the city budget to accelerate implementation.
The bridge will extend 2.16 kilometers, feature eight traffic lanes, provide a 15-meter fixed navigation clearance, and require total investment of approximately VND5.063 trillion (US$195 million).
Once completed, Thu Thiem 4 Bridge is expected to strengthen connectivity between southern and eastern districts, relieve pressure on heavily congested routes including Ton Duc Thang Street, Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, and Khanh Hoi Bridge, while supporting urban development, investment and commercial activity in southern Ho Chi Minh City and the Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
