Academic publisher Elsevier has released its 2026 rankings of the world's most influential scientists, with nine Vietnamese researchers currently working at domestic institutions securing positions among the global top 10,000.

In the broader ranking of the world's 100,000 most influential scientists based on research citations, Vietnam has 75 researchers on the list, an increase of two compared with the previous year.

The ranking evaluates scientists' research influence using several citation-based indicators, including total citations excluding self-citations, the Hirsch index (h-index) and the Schreiber index (hm-index).

It also considers citations to papers in which researchers are listed as sole authors, first authors or last authors, reflecting their contributions to published scientific work.

The scientists are classified across 20 major scientific fields and 174 subfields covering various research disciplines and specializations.
