More than a month after construction began, the first three houses in the Nu Village resettlement area (Phuc Khanh Commune, Bao Yen District, Lao Cai Province) have been roofed. A new village is gradually taking shape.
After enduring the trauma and loss caused by a devastating flash flood, the lives of Nu villagers are slowly stabilizing.
In recent days, Phuc Khanh Commune Chairman Dang Thanh Hoa has frequently visited Nu Hamlet to meet with residents and monitor their situation in the temporary shelter area.
According to Mr. Hoa, with support from higher authorities and philanthropists across the country, the residents' lives have stabilized and returned to a semblance of normalcy. The villagers eagerly await the completion of the new resettlement area to settle down and rebuild their livelihoods.
The first phase of the Nu Village resettlement project began on September 21, spanning approximately 10 hectares. The area will feature 40 two-story stilt houses designed in the traditional Tay architectural style, along with supplementary facilities.
The resettlement area will also include a community cultural house, a school, and essential infrastructure to ensure residents can live stably and long-term.
Currently, more than 200 officers, soldiers, and 50 pieces of machinery are involved in the construction effort. To accelerate progress, prefabricated components are being transported to the site and assembled into complete stilt house frames.
According to Dang Van Manh, Deputy Director of the Bao Yen District Project Management and Construction Investment Board, workers from Army Corps 12 are working in three shifts, day and night, to meet the construction schedule.
The roofing of three houses has been completed, and other infrastructure projects, including roads, drainage systems, electricity, and water supply, are being expedited. The roofing of all 40 houses is expected to be completed by December 2.
During a recent inspection of the resettlement project’s progress, Trinh Xuan Truong, Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, reaffirmed the province's commitment to reviving Nu Village, transforming it into a happy village and a digital transformation model to help residents recover from the disaster.
Mr. Truong emphasized three main goals for stabilizing the lives of Lang Nu residents:
Vocational training and job creation.
Restoring agricultural production and developing Lang Nu's unique products.
Leveraging local strengths to establish Lang Nu as a tourism destination.
