At the invitation of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and his spouse, General Secretary and President will make his first official visit to Cuba in his role as head of both the Party and the State.
This visit comes as Vietnam and Cuba prepare to celebrate the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, established in 1960. Over the past six decades, the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba has been one of solidarity, mutual support, and comprehensive cooperation. As both countries move forward, this state visit signifies a new chapter in their historic alliance.
Cuba was one of the first countries to extend unwavering support to Vietnam during its national struggle for independence and reunification. Throughout the years, Cuba has been a symbol of international solidarity, standing at the forefront of global movements to support Vietnam’s just cause.
Today, Vietnam remains committed to strengthening its ties with Cuba. Leaders from both nations frequently emphasize the importance of the Vietnam-Cuba relationship, referring to it as a "symbol of the era." In this light, the state visit by the General Secretary and President seeks to reaffirm Vietnam’s dedication to fostering a deep and sustainable partnership with Cuba.
Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Party’s Central Committee for External Relations, explained that the visit reflects Vietnam’s foreign policy priorities established at the 13th Party Congress. "This visit demonstrates Vietnam’s desire to nurture its ties with long-standing friends like Cuba, underlining the importance of solidarity and mutual cooperation," he said.
The visit highlights the exemplary bond between Vietnam and Cuba, described as steadfast, loyal, and unwavering. The Vietnamese leadership is determined to work closely with Cuba to further strengthen their unique relationship.
During the visit, senior leaders from both nations will discuss the progress made in various areas of bilateral cooperation and outline strategies to enhance collaboration across multiple sectors. This marks a pivotal moment for Vietnam and Cuba as they transition into a new era of practical and sustainable development, benefiting both their peoples.
During his visit, the General Secretary and President will engage in high-level discussions with key Cuban leaders. These talks will focus on expanding cooperation in key areas such as economics, trade, and investment. In addition, the General Secretary will pay tribute to two pivotal figures in the Vietnam-Cuba relationship - Ho Chi Minh and Cuban national hero José Martí - by laying wreaths at their monuments.
The delegation will also visit economic projects that reflect Vietnam’s investment in Cuba, showcasing the strong ties between businesses from both nations. Furthermore, the visit includes cultural and diplomatic exchanges with representatives from the Cuban people and youth, reflecting the deep-rooted connections between the two countries.
"The visit will build on the foundation laid by Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro, bringing the Vietnam-Cuba relationship to new heights," said Le Hoai Trung. These bilateral meetings will foster greater understanding and strengthen cooperation on key global issues, further solidifying the unique partnership between the two nations.
Vietnam is currently Cuba’s second-largest trading partner and its largest investor from the Asia-Pacific region. The visit presents a valuable opportunity for both sides to enhance economic cooperation, particularly in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, and technology. By strengthening these economic ties, Vietnam and Cuba aim to develop mutually beneficial solutions that address shared challenges.
In addition to the official meetings, the visit will feature engagements between the spouses of the leaders, as well as cultural exchanges between the two peoples. These activities will further illustrate the deep affection and solidarity that characterize the Vietnam-Cuba relationship.
Le Hoai Trung expressed his confidence that the visit will be a resounding success, strengthening the special bonds of friendship and fraternity between the two nations. "The results of this visit will help write the next chapter in the proud and beautiful history shared by Vietnam and Cuba, ensuring that their relationship continues to grow stronger and more sustainable in the years ahead."
