Bien is suspected to be the mastermind behind a drug ring trafficking a total of 490 bricks of heroin, hidden in gas cylinders, and busted by C47 almost two years ago.

In July 2015, the C47 team, along with the Viet Nam Coast Guard Command and police officials from Ha Noi and Hoa Binh Province, arrested six people for trafficking 170 bricks of heroin, hidden in a gas cylinder.

Interrogations led the police to two other industrial gas cylinders that contained 320 heroin packages, which they seized after raiding a house rented by Nguyen Quoc Hung, one of the suspects, in Ha Noi’s Hoai Duc District.

Bien was identified as the organiser of the shipment, who assigned work to those involved. However, he managed to elude arrest, and escaped with others 200 cakes of heroin, the police said.

On Sunday, he was finally arrested while working as a security guard for a building in Ha Noi’s Nam Tu Liem District.

Last month, the Ha Noi People’s Court upheld the death sentence handed to eight members of the drug ring.

Bien, as well as the others, will also be tried in another case.
