According to investigators, in the early hours of June 28, under the direction of the Can Tho City Police Director, officers from the Criminal Police Division and supporting units simultaneously searched eight locations across the city and summoned 26 people for questioning.

Authorities seized 45 mobile phones, iPads, computers and numerous documents and electronic data related to the illegal lottery and football betting operation.

Initial findings indicate that the network handled gambling transactions worth more than VND1 trillion (US$37.6 million) from the time it began operating until it was dismantled.

The Can Tho City Police Investigation Agency has temporarily detained 13 suspects on allegations of gambling and organising gambling while expanding the investigation to determine the roles of other individuals involved.

Police identified Nguyen Van Hao (born 1992) and Pham Xuan Thuy (born 1989), both from Thai Nguyen Province, as the alleged ringleaders.

Investigators said the group used a Super Master football betting account identified as "JQK52", dividing it into numerous lower-level accounts distributed to gamblers across Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh and several other provinces and cities.

Authorities estimate that the syndicate processed gambling transactions worth more than VND900 billion (US$33.8 million). During the 2026 FIFA World Cup alone, from June 12 until its discovery, betting transactions were estimated at around VND350 billion (US$13.2 million).

The Ninh Binh Provincial Police Investigation Agency has temporarily detained six suspects and continues its investigation.

Da Nang: Coordinated raids dismantle betting network

Da Nang City Police also announced on July 4 that its Criminal Police Division had dismantled an online football betting operation active during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with transactions exceeding VND20 billion (US$752,000).

According to investigators, Tran Trung Viet (born 1980) received a Master betting account before splitting it into four Agent accounts managed by Tran Quoc Quang (born 1975), Tran Quoc Hung (born 1980) and Nguyen Dang Hoang Linh (born 1973), all residents of Da Nang, to organise gambling activities.

Viet also directly managed one Agent account while both organising and participating in gambling.

The group further divided the accounts into 16 smaller accounts assigned to individual bettors. Between June 1 and July 2 alone, investigators determined that transactions exceeded VND20 billion (US$752,000).

On July 2, police deployed eight task forces to simultaneously search multiple locations, arrest suspects and seize nearly 12,000 pages of documents, electronic data and other evidence.

Authorities have temporarily detained Tran Trung Viet for allegedly organising gambling, while Tran Quoc Quang, Tran Quoc Hung and two others are under investigation for gambling offences. Nguyen Dang Hoang Linh remains at large.

The investigation is continuing.
