On January 6, President Luong Cuong signed the decision to appoint Can Dinh Tai, formerly the assistant to the previous President, as an assistant to the Politburo Member and President Luong Cuong.

Nguyen Hoang Anh, who also served as an assistant to the previous President, has similarly been appointed as an assistant to President Luong Cuong.

Criteria and responsibilities for the role of assistant

According to Regulation No. 30 of the Politburo, individuals appointed to the role of assistant must meet specific qualifications and conditions.

They are required to possess appropriate professional expertise and an in-depth understanding of their assigned field.

In addition, they must demonstrate strong research, analytical, and information synthesis skills, along with the ability to provide strategic counsel and coordinate work effectively.

The position mandates holding a director-level position or equivalent, or having a leadership allowance coefficient equivalent to or higher than that of a director for at least three years. In exceptional cases, appointments are subject to higher-level approval.

The regulation also specifies the number of assistants permitted for key leaders. The General Secretary, President, Prime Minister, and Chairperson of the National Assembly are each allowed up to four assistants. The Standing Member of the Secretariat can have up to three assistants, while Politburo Members may employ up to two.

The duties of an assistant include advising and proposing the development and implementation of programs and plans for their leader’s activities.

They are also responsible for staying informed, conducting research, and analyzing and synthesizing information to provide counsel on issues related to their leader's responsibilities.

Assistants may also coordinate with relevant agencies and individuals to draft documents, speeches, and written communications as required. They perform other tasks as directed by their leader.
