One particularly alarming incident involved a sinkhole emerging in the karaoke room of a resident's house, engulfing tables, chairs, and a TV.
On June 24, the People's Committee of Cam Pha City reported a "death hole" in Group 1, Nam Son 2 area, Cam Son ward. The sinkhole appeared on the road following heavy rainfall.
Around 7:30 a.m. on June 22, residents heard a strange noise and soon discovered a sinkhole on the road surface. They promptly informed the local authorities.
Upon receiving the report, Mr. Dinh Ngoc Chien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Pha City, arrived at the scene with relevant officials to assess the situation.
Authorities noted that the hole was over 3.5 meters deep, located near the edge of a residential road, and was flooded. It was approximately 10 meters from a nearby house.
Immediate measures were taken to cordon off the area, prevent access, and begin filling the sinkhole. Ongoing monitoring was implemented to address any further subsidence.
On June 23, another "death hole" appeared in the karaoke room of Mr. Tran Huu Ba's family, located in the same area. This sinkhole measured 3.5 meters in diameter and 4 meters in depth. The sudden appearance of the hole caused significant damage as it swallowed furniture, including tables, chairs, and a TV.
This is not the first occurrence of such sinkholes in the area. In 2023, two "death holes" appeared, impacting three households and raising concerns about the underlying causes and potential recurrence of these incidents.
The local authorities are taking steps to investigate the cause of these sinkholes and to implement measures to prevent future occurrences. Residents have been advised to stay vigilant and report any unusual ground movements or noises immediately.
