PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc is making the first trip to Switzerland for the annual meeting of the Word Economic Forum as the Government chief to assure Viet Nam’s commitment to comprehensive reform and international integration agenda.

PM Phuc will also reaffirm the determination to build a constructive Government and double efforts to consolidate the confidence of the international business community in order to further accelerate high-quality investment inflows, according to Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, Head of the Vietnamese permanent mission in Geneva.

He will take the occasion to highlight the role and position of Viet Nam as the host of the APEC Year 2017 in a bid to gain support from the international community.

The Government chief will also deliver a keynote speech at the Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL) to affirm Viet Nam’s reform efforts.

The 2017 WEF meeting will include several activities to mark the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, during which PM Phuc is expected to report on Viet Nam’s contributions to the bloc.

He is also due to have a series of bilateral meetings with WEF President Klaus Schwab, President of Switzerland Doris Leuthard, and leaders of participating countries, international organizations, and global leadership groups.

The relations between Viet Nam and the WEF have advanced quickly in various fields since the country joined the forum in 1989, said Ambassador Dung.

At first, the forum provided opportunities to initiate economic relations with developed countries as Viet Nam was embargoed. Now, it has become an important dialogue platform of the Vietnamese Government leaders and top business leaders of the world, bringing chances to national development.

Bilateral meetings and contacts between Vietnamese leaders, their counterparts and leaders of global groups are opportunities to exchange on ideas and insights, thus helping to shape Viet Nam’s national development guidelines and policies.

Viet Nam and WEF have expanded cooperation to improving national competitiveness, industries and agriculture. The former has actively and effectively participated in the forum’s initiatives like the New Vision for Agriculture, Grow Asia, Green Growth Action Alliance, and Shaping the Future of Global Production Systems.

The country has also been active in hosting the forum’s regional meetings, especially first World Economic Forum on Mekong last October that drew the participation of the world’s leading business leaders were praised by Mekong countries and regional business communities.

Besides, Vietnamese enterprises have gradually joined the forum’s activities and 11 groups and companies have become members of the forum.

At present, the forum expects to foster multifaceted cooperation with Viet Nam-a dynamic country which has played an active role in the region and the world through its intensive and extensive international integration, Dung said.
