Earlier this year, Samsung rolled out the One UI 8.5 beta to its newest lineup, including the Galaxy S25 series and foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Now, that experience is gradually reaching older devices, signaling a broader and more inclusive approach.

At the heart of this update is a renewed focus on Galaxy AI, alongside a significantly enhanced version of Bixby designed to deliver more natural, context-aware conversations.

Beta program reaches more devices

The One UI 8.5 beta is no longer limited to Samsung’s latest hardware. The company has expanded eligibility to a growing list of devices, reflecting its effort to bring advanced features to a wider user base.

Currently supported devices include the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy S24 FE and the Galaxy Tab S11 lineup. Users can enroll through the Samsung Members app, with additional devices expected to be added in April.

One UI, Samsung’s custom Android interface, continues to evolve with version 8.5 placing strong emphasis on making Galaxy AI more practical in everyday use.

The standout upgrade is Bixby, which now better understands context and responds in a more conversational manner, narrowing the gap between virtual assistants and human interaction.

A second chance for Bixby - and older devices

For users still holding onto devices like the Galaxy S24 or Galaxy Tab S11, the update marks a meaningful upgrade.

Bixby’s transformation is particularly notable. Once overlooked by many users, the assistant now feels more responsive and intuitive, offering a more human-like interaction that may encourage users to revisit it.

Beyond individual features, the broader significance lies in Samsung’s evolving commitment to long-term software support. For years, Apple has been widely praised for extending updates across multiple iPhone generations. Samsung now appears determined to close that gap.

By bringing a major beta release like One UI 8.5 to older devices, Samsung is extending the lifecycle of its products and reinforcing user loyalty.

Early access comes with trade-offs

As with any beta program, the experience is not without risks.

Users should expect occasional bugs, performance inconsistencies or app compatibility issues, especially as Samsung continues refining its AI-driven features.

For those eager to explore new capabilities early, joining the beta program can be an exciting opportunity. However, users who rely heavily on their devices for daily work may prefer to wait for the stable release.

The expansion of One UI 8.5 marks a clear strategic direction: Samsung is not only investing in AI but also ensuring that more users - even those on older devices - can benefit from it.

This shift strengthens the Galaxy ecosystem and offers a compelling reason for users to stay within Samsung’s platform rather than upgrade prematurely.
