Earlier this year, rumors suggested Samsung considered renaming the standard Galaxy S26 model as the “Galaxy S26 Pro,” despite the device lacking truly professional-grade upgrades. That plan was reportedly abandoned.
Now, however, Samsung is said to be revisiting the idea for the Galaxy S27 lineup in a far more serious way. Instead of sticking with the traditional three-model structure or reviving the unsuccessful Edge series, the company could introduce a fourth model called the Galaxy S27 Pro.
What makes the device particularly interesting is that it may offer more than just a premium name. Reports suggest it could feature genuinely high-end specifications and even share several technologies with the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
According to sources from South Korea, the Galaxy S27 Pro may come with a 6.47-inch display - an unusual size within Samsung’s ecosystem. The screen is viewed as a more comfortable middle ground compared to the increasingly common near-7-inch flagship phones on the market.
Well-known leaker Ice Universe recently fueled more speculation by claiming the Galaxy S27 Pro could use the same primary camera system as the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
That would likely mean a 200MP main sensor alongside a 50MP ultra-wide camera - specifications long associated with Samsung’s Ultra lineup.
Although Ice Universe did not mention the exact numbers directly, analysts believe the Galaxy S27 Pro may inherit the same sensor package Samsung is reportedly developing for the S27 Ultra.
Even more interestingly, those sensors are rumored to be entirely new-generation hardware rather than reused components from the Galaxy S26 Ultra. If true, the S27 Pro would benefit from the same advances.
That could allow the compact Pro model to outperform even the Galaxy S26 Ultra in photography - a notable possibility considering the current status of Samsung’s Ultra devices.
Clearly, if Samsung equips a significantly smaller phone with Ultra-grade camera hardware, the “Pro” branding would make far more sense than previous rumors suggested.
Still distinct from the Ultra
Even so, Samsung is unlikely to let the Galaxy S27 Pro completely overshadow the Ultra model.
The biggest difference is expected to be in the telephoto system. According to leaks, the Galaxy S27 Pro may feature weaker zoom capabilities than the Galaxy S27 Ultra in order to maintain product segmentation.
It remains unclear which exact setup Samsung will choose, but the company could retain the older 10MP 3x optical zoom telephoto camera used in previous generations.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to focus on an upgraded 50MP periscope camera with improved 5x optical zoom.
Some rumors suggest Samsung could equip the S27 Pro with a 50MP telephoto sensor featuring 3.5x optical zoom, though many analysts consider that possibility somewhat ambitious.
Still, even with weaker zoom hardware, the Galaxy S27 Pro could emerge as one of the strongest compact camera smartphones in its category.
If current rumors prove accurate, the Galaxy S27 Pro may become the closest thing yet to the “mini Ultra” Samsung fans have wanted for years.
In addition to sharing camera technology with the Ultra model, the phone is rumored to use Qualcomm’s top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.
The device may also include up to 16GB of RAM and as much as 1TB of storage - specifications typically reserved for the most expensive flagship smartphones.
Battery life has long been one of the biggest weaknesses of compact smartphones. However, Samsung reportedly wants to break that limitation with the Galaxy S27 Pro.
Leaks suggest the device could feature a battery around 5,000mAh - an extremely impressive figure for a smartphone with a display smaller than 6.5 inches.
Charging speeds may also reach 60W, matching the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This indicates Samsung could be positioning the S27 Pro as a true premium flagship rather than a simplified compact variant.
The Galaxy S27 Pro will not come cheap
Naturally, all of those rumored upgrades would place the Galaxy S27 Pro firmly in the premium category.
Analysts predict the phone may cost around $100-200 less than the Galaxy S27 Ultra due to its smaller size, while still being significantly more expensive than the standard Galaxy S27.
If Samsung positions the device correctly, the Galaxy S27 Pro could become the ideal option for users seeking a top-tier flagship experience without carrying a nearly 7-inch smartphone every day.
At a time when premium smartphones are becoming increasingly similar, this “mini Ultra” strategy could be distinctive enough to help Samsung create a new trend heading into 2027.
