In recent days, many current and former students of the university, commonly known as HUST, expressed sadness after reports emerged suggesting that the Parabol gate - a symbol closely associated with the institution - could fall within a clearance zone linked to the road widening project.

Under the proposed plan, part of the university’s land could reportedly be reduced to an area near the C9 building.

Responding to the concerns, Professor Le Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said the university leadership would carefully consider all options to preserve the symbolic structure, whether through rebuilding or relocation.

“The image of the Parabol gate will always remain connected with Hanoi University of Science and Technology, representing the intellect and identity of one of Vietnam’s leading science and technology universities,” Professor Le Anh Tuan said.

A symbol spanning generations

The Parabol gate was built more than 50 years ago and is known for its distinctive architectural design.

For generations of HUST students, the gate has become a source of pride and a symbol of intellectual aspiration and modern scientific education.

In addition to the Parabol gate on Giai Phong Street, the university currently has two other entrances located on Dai Co Viet Street and Tran Dai Nghia Street.

Although the Tran Dai Nghia entrance serves as the main access point for many students today, the Parabol gate remains one of the university’s most recognizable landmarks and is often described by students and alumni as a “legend” of HUST.
