The Thai horror film Tee Yod: Soul Eater 3 claimed the top spot at the Vietnamese box office over the past weekend with overwhelming ticket sales, ending a long streak of dominance by Vietnamese films.
The cast of "Tee Yod: Soul Eater 3" visited Vietnam to promote the film.
Following the box office success of its two predecessors in Vietnam, the third installment of the popular Thai horror franchise Tee Yod: Soul Eater continued to make a splash in local theaters.
According to Box Office Vietnam, the film earned VND 33 billion (approximately USD 1.3 million) over the weekend, with 367,915 tickets sold across 10,664 screenings.
Including early screening revenues, Tee Yod: Soul Eater 3 has surpassed VND 50 billion (around USD 2 million) in total earnings in Vietnamese theaters.
This latest installment returned on a larger scale, revealing the true origins of the demon and introducing new characters, reinforcing the franchise's status as one of Thailand’s most successful horror series.
The appearance of five cast members during a promotional tour in Vietnam also significantly boosted the film’s popularity and momentum.
With its strong debut, Tee Yod: Soul Eater 3 officially dethroned Sky Hijack, the Vietnamese action thriller starring Thai Hoa and Thanh Son, which had led the box office for three consecutive weeks.
Sky Hijack, inspired by a real-life plane hijacking in Vietnam, earned an additional VND 10 billion (approx. USD 400,000) over the weekend, bringing its total revenue to VND 235 billion (nearly USD 9.5 million).

Meanwhile, the Hollywood sci-fi thriller Illusion Game: Ares opened in Vietnam over the weekend but failed to make a significant impact, earning just VND 2.7 billion (about USD 110,000), despite its visually stunning effects.
The Vietnamese romantic comedy Sister Falls, Brother Lifts, starring Quoc Truong, brought in an additional VND 2.6 billion (approx. USD 105,000) in its second week, reaching VND 14 billion (about USD 565,000) after 10 days, despite an extensive promotional cinetour.
Another Vietnamese film, You Hold a Star, also underperformed at the box office, earning just VND 10 billion (USD 400,000) after 10 days in theaters. Over the past weekend, the film ranked fifth with a modest VND 2.2 billion (USD 89,000).
This coming weekend, the box office is expected to shift once again with the release of Grandma’s Gold Nugget, a new film from the team behind Sister-in-Law.
