For nearly three weeks, Red Rain has dominated Vietnamese cinemas, prompting other films to adjust their schedules to avoid direct competition. But this weekend, the Vietnamese box office will witness the return of The Conjuring franchise’s ninth and final installment, a horror phenomenon both in Vietnam and worldwide.

The Conjuring: Last Rites has officially surpassed the USD 190 million opening weekend record set by It (2017), reaching USD 194 million globally in its first weekend, making it the most successful horror film opening in history.

Premiering in 2013, The Conjuring helped define the supernatural horror genre with a string of exorcism-themed stories inspired by real-life case files of renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Across three main films and spinoffs like Annabelle and The Nun, The Conjuring universe has captivated millions and established itself as the highest-grossing horror franchise in Hollywood history.

The final chapter, The Conjuring: Last Rites, brings the celebrated series to a close. It continues the Warrens' chilling demon-hunting journey, pitting them against one of the most elusive and complex antagonists they’ve ever faced. This cinematic showdown promises both terror and depth, offering a powerful and unsettling experience for audiences.

The film is expected to deliver a grand and poignant finale to the Warrens’ emotional and perilous journey. Director Michael Chaves aims to resolve major mysteries surrounding the franchise, such as the secret to containing Annabelle and the sinister force haunting Lorraine’s psyche. The plot also revisits a traumatic case from the Warrens' early years, one that left them haunted by regret and pain.

Directed by Michael Chaves and produced by James Wan, The Conjuring: Last Rites is set to hit theaters on September 12. It is projected to shake up Vietnam's box office and cool the fiery momentum of Red Rain, which is racing toward a record-breaking 600 billion VND (approximately USD 25 million).
