Under the National Target Program on social-economic development in ethnic minority areas, Thai Nguyen province has focused on solving the shortage of residential land, housing, productive land, and running water in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
Priority is given to people in areas where drought and saltwater intrusion frequently occur, the people living in extremely difficult areas, and thouse in the mountainous and remote areas where there is no safe water sources or lack of hygienic water supply.
The safe water support program consists of two components: providing clean water, with priority given to support for purchasing equipment or building water tanks to serve household activities; Investing in construction of centralized water works under projects approved by competent authorities.
In particular, in the period from 2021 to 2023, the province has distributed safe water for nearly 600 households with a budget of nearly 1.8 billion VND and built 20 centralized water systems with a total capital of over 40 billion VND.
In the period of 2021 - 2025, Thai Nguyen is distributed with over 92 billion VND from the National Target Program to build 35 centralized water supply works with a cost of over 75 billion VND, provide safe water to nearly 6,000 households, worth nearly 18 billion VND.
Thai Nguyen now strives to have the average income of ethnic minority people increase by more than 2 times in 2025, compared to 2020, to reduce the rate of poor households in mountainous and ethnic minority areas in the province by an average of 2%/year;
Reduce by 50% the number of extremely difficult communes in ethnic minority areas; Reduce the number of extremely difficult villages and hamlets by 50%; 100% of schools, classrooms and medical stations are upgraded or newly built; 96% of ethnic minorities have access to clean water.
