Traditional theatrical art is facing an existential crisis due to a lack of engagement and consistent interest from audiences, especially on the traditional stage. 

LucTeam Theatre will be the first team performing Antigone on Saturday under a theatre project to popularise the work by Sophocles – one of classical Athens' greatest playwrights.

The thousand-year-old culture of Vietnam is so rich in theatrical tradition – be it plays, comedies, tragedies or musicals – that each region seems to have its own operatic form.

Vietnamese artists and audience will have the chance to engage with the work of ancient Greek writer Sophocles under a project run by the Goethe Institute and Vietnam Youth Theatre. 

From the very first time a sitcom appeared on TV screens around Vietnam more than a decade ago it was clear that the format had found favour among the country’s younger viewers while older ones were left somewhat unimpressed.

Children in HCM City are encouraged to join training courses in performance skills launched by the Small Theatre, a leading private theatre, this summer. 

Vietnam has won two prizes at the 7th China – ASEAN Theatre Festival in Nanning city, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, China.
