The HCM City Party Committee’s Secretary Dinh La Thang, who stated he wants to restore the title ‘the Far East’s Pearl’ for HCM City, recently had a meeting with the managers of the conglomerates from the US - Cantor Fitzgerald, Weider Resorts, Steelman Partners and IPP Vietnam-  to discuss a huge investment project in the city.

Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, president of IPP Vietnam, a well-known businessman, said IPP and the three US investors wish to develop a big complex in Thu Thiem, HCM City with the investment capital of $4 billion.

The complex is expected to comprise an entertainment area, office buildings and shopping centers, while the office tower there is hoped to serve as the new financial center in South East Asia, gathering Vietnamese and international businesses.

“The building would bring hundreds of billions of dollars to Vietnam because it would help lure hundreds of businesses,” the businessman said.

Meanwhile, Thang, applauding the investment, said the investors have made a wise decision on making investment in HCM City, because HCM City is a big economic center of the country, while HCM City dwellers are eager for renovation and are courageous.

While Steelman Partners is among the world’s leading architectural firms, Cantor Fitzgerald is a global financial investor and Weidner Resorts is famous in the hotel & casino sector.
The investors have been reported as having working sessions with the Ministry of Planning and Investment, HCM City’s Mayor Nguyen Thanh Phong and the Thu Thiem New Urban Area Board of Management.

The three investors who are partners of Johnathan Hanh Nguyen in the huge project all are the big names in their fields.

With the operation stretching across America, Europe and Asia, Steelman Partners is ranked by Engineering News-Record Journal at the 268th position out of 500 biggest design firm in the world in 2016, up by seven grades compared with the 2015 ranking.

By April 2016, Steelman Partners had completed 4,000 recreation and integrated resort projects in many different countries including Singapore, Thailand, Russia, Australia, Italia and Switzerland. 

The firm possesses and runs some subsidiaries namely DSAA (interior design), shop 12 (light design), Inviro Studios (film and 3D) and MARQI Branding Studio (brand design).

The name Steelman Partners is well known to many Vietnamese as the developer of the Ho Tram Strip and Happy Land.

Meanwhile, Cantor Fitzgerald is a financial investment institution which is present in 30 countries. By the end of 2015, the conglomerate had total assets of $10 billion.

The third US partner is Weidner Resorts, belonging to Weidner Holdings, is well known as the world’s leading hotel, casino and integrated resort developer and manager. Weidner Holdings’ subsidiaries are present in China, India and Taiwan.
