Hon Me Island (Thanh Hoa)
 

Hon Me Island is part of the Hon Me Archipelago in Hai Binh Ward, Thanh Hoa Province (formerly Nghi Son Town), about 11 kilometers off the mainland.

The island has no permanent civilian population, allowing it to retain much of its natural beauty and rich biodiversity.

Dense primary forest covers much of the island and is home to more than 400 plant species and a wide variety of wildlife. The forest includes valuable timber species such as ironwood, kim giao and sen trees, as well as rattan, bamboo and more than 100 species of medicinal plants.

Located close to the mainland, the surrounding waters support an active fishing industry, particularly during the peak season. The area is known for its abundant seafood, especially squid and lobster.

Visitors can reach Hon Me by boat from Hai Binh Fishing Port at the Lach Bang Estuary, where a border guard checkpoint is located. The journey takes about three hours.

Travelers can also join tours offered by local operators, which may provide a more economical option.

While on the island, visitors can pay their respects at the Hon Me Island Memorial to Fallen Soldiers, visit the lighthouse and experience daily life alongside the servicemen stationed on the island.

Con Co Island (Quang Tri)

Located nearly 30 kilometers from Cua Viet Port in Cua Viet Commune, Quang Tri Province (formerly Gio Linh District), Con Co Special Zone (formerly Con Co Island) is one of the province's most attractive island destinations.

The island was formed by volcanic activity and is characterized by dramatic basalt rock formations along its coastline, as well as secluded beaches made up of shells, coral fragments and sand.

Visitors travel to Cua Viet Port before boarding a high-speed boat for a journey of about one to one-and-a-half hours.

Con Co offers a mix of natural attractions and historical sites, including Nghe Wharf, Tranh Beach, the lighthouse, the national flagpole, the Hill 37 Fallen Soldiers Memorial, the Thai Van A Observation Tower, clusters of bang vuong trees, a military medical bunker and the island's traditional house.

Outdoor activities include renting tandem bicycles, motorbikes or electric vehicles, paddleboarding, collecting shellfish and sea grapes, taking glass-bottom boat tours and snorkeling to view coral reefs, depending on weather and sea conditions.

Accommodation mainly consists of government guesthouses and locally run homestays, with room rates ranging from VND400,000 to VND600,000 (US$15–23) per night.

Most accommodations also provide meals, while visitors can sample local seafood at restaurants and casual eateries serving specialties such as giant oysters, spiny snails, conical snails, oc tho and fresh sea grapes.
