A tornado triggered by severe thunderstorms swept across several communities in Vietnam's southern Ca Mau Province on July 13, destroying seven homes, damaging more than 60 others and injuring four people, according to local authorities.

The violent weather struck multiple communes, leaving a trail of damaged houses, uprooted trees and scattered debris as emergency crews rushed to assist affected residents.

Homes damaged within minutes

Heavy rain and strong winds began early in the morning before a tornado formed and moved through Khanh Binh, Tran Van Thoi, Tri Phai and Luong The Tran communes, along with nearby areas.

Within minutes, powerful winds ripped metal and tile roofs from homes, snapped trees and hurled household belongings across residential areas. Although the tornado quickly passed, heavy rain continued for several hours.

Local authorities immediately deployed police, military personnel and community organisations to help residents clear debris, repair damaged homes and assess losses for emergency assistance.

The disasters have killed two people, injured four others and caused estimated economic losses of more than VND25.4 billion (US$972,000).
