Tourism activities associated with Khmer culture in Tra Vinh Province.


The Khmer community in Tra Vinh has created many tangible and intangible cultural heritages that contribute to the cultural treasure of the Khmer people in Vietnam.

In recent years, besides implementing many guidelines and policies for socio-economic development in the areas where are home to the Khmer ethnic people, the government of Tra Vinh province has always focused on preserving the cultural identity of the local Khmer community. Thanks to that, the material and spiritual life of local Khmer people has been significantly improved. In Tra Vinh, party committees and authorities at all levels always create favorable conditions for Khmer people to preserve and promote national cultural identity and tangible and intangible culture.

To date, the province has established 112 five-tone orchestra troupes, 95 Sa Dam drum troupes, 35 dance troupes, 40 ethnic volleyball teams, and 8 Ngo boat teams. In particular, Tra Vinh has 4 national intangible cultural heritages, which are traditional festivals and arts of the Khmer people, including: Ok Om Bok Festival, Néak Ta Long Dom Festival, Cham Rieng Cha Pey Art and Ro-Bam Art.

The province has 143 Khmer Theravada Buddhist temples. Among them, many pagodas are recognized as cultural heritages at the national and provincial levels. Using funds from various sources, long-standing pagodas in Tra Vinh have been well preserved.

The Tra Vinh Museum of Khmer Ethnic Culture was built and put into operation in 1995. Up to now, it has collected, systematized and displayed over 1,000 artifacts, images and documents reflecting material, cultural and spiritual life of Tra Vinh Khmer ethnic community, from traditional to contemporary.

The Khmer people in Tra Vinh currently have three intangible cultural heritages recognized at the national level (Cham rieng cha pay art; Ok Om Bok Festival; Ro-bam art); seven tangible cultural heritages recognized at the national level (Ba Om Pond Scenic Landscape; Ang Pagoda architecture; Bodhiculanhani Pagoda (Soc Hamlet); Bodhisalaraja Pagoda (Kom Pong); Ba Si Pagoda; Teakhinasakor Ta Lon Pagoda (Cai Coi Pagoda); Giac Linh Pagoda (Bat Pagoda).

There are also 15 provincial-level tangible cultural heritage sites, namely SattharamVanTa Pagoda (Ta Rom); Sattharinadi Pro Khup Pagoda (Tra Khup); Chroi Tan Sa Pagoda; Can Snom Pagoda; VelLac Pagoda (Lac Hoa); Pno Om Pung Pagoda (Sirivansaràma); Chong Bat Pagoda, Krapoumchhouk Chral Pagoda (Cha Pagoda); Phno Sanke Thmay Pagoda (Me Lang Pagoda), Sàlavana (Ta Ot Pagoda); Uttamabhirìràjamandìr Pagoda; Pla Pang Pagoda (Sôrinriachaprue Pagoda); Dom Bot Bi Pagoda; Lo Gach Pagoda; Trot Lich Pagoda; O Chhuc Pagoda.

The provincial tourism sector and many businesses have surveyed and exploited the inherent unique features of the Khmer cultural heritage in Tra Vinh, incorporating them into tours, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists.

Tourism activities associated with Khmer culture have had many significant developments, considered a new feature, creating attractive tourism products for the province.

Many travel companies have opened tours to Tra Vinh’s destinations that are formed from the cultural values of the Khmer people, such as: Khmer Cultural - Tourism Village of Tra Vinh province in Tra Vinh City and Chau Thanh district, Khmer pagodas, agricultural tourism at Sokfarm Farm in Tieu Can district.
