On his social media page with 18 million followers, Tran Thanh shared the news that he has joined the upcoming epic project The Sword – A Legend of the Red Wolf, directed by renowned Korean filmmaker Kim Han Min.
He also posted photos from the script-reading session with the Korean cast and crew.




The film is set in the year 668 in the Liaodong region after the fall of the Goguryeo kingdom. The story follows Chilseong, played by Park Bo-gum, an amnesiac slave who is forced into a deadly arena in a quest for a legendary sword.
Tran Thanh will portray Sol In Gwi (Xue Rengui), the commander of the An Dong Protectorate under the Tang dynasty, a powerful figure who influences the political situation in the north and the arena’s deadly conflicts.
To prepare for the role, Tran Thanh said he must perform using three languages: classical Chinese, Turkic and Mongolian.
He expressed excitement about joining the project.
“It is truly an honor for me to participate in such a massive project in Korea. I will try my best to live up to the expectations of audiences who have supported me for nearly two decades,” he wrote.

Born in 1987, Tran Thanh began his career as an actor and television host. In recent years, he has gained major success as a film director with several box-office hits including Bo Gia, Nha Ba Nu, Mai, Bo Tu Bao Thu and Tho Oi!, which together grossed more than VND2 trillion.
The Sword – A Legend of the Red Wolf marks Tran Thanh’s first international acting project.
He also revealed that besides this film, he is preparing a new movie planned for release during the 2027 Lunar New Year season.
Director Kim Han Min, born in 1969, is known for several blockbuster films that ranked among the highest-grossing in Korean cinema history, including The Admiral: Roaring Currents and War of the Arrows.
