Despite ongoing controversy, the feature film “Tho oi!” (Bunnie!!) directed by Tran Thanh has officially surpassed VND400 billion (US$16.3 million), maintaining its No.1 position at Vietnam’s box office against five competitors.
According to independent tracker Box Office Vietnam, as of 7pm on March 3, “Tho oi!” reached the VND400 billion milestone.
Released on the first day of the Lunar New Year 2026 holiday, the film has overwhelmingly outperformed three Tet rivals in total revenue: “Nha ba toi mot phong” with VND109 billion (US$4.4 million), “Bau vat troi cho” with VND95 billion (approximately US$3.9 million) and “Mui pho” with VND37 billion (US$1.5 million).
In terms of daily revenue on March 3, two newly released titles, “Cam on nguoi da thuc cung toi” and “Nha minh di thoi,” are steadily gaining momentum, gradually overtaking films that premiered during the Tet season.
Notably, “Cam on nguoi da thuc cung toi” has surpassed “Bau vat troi cho” to claim the No.2 spot in daily revenue.
Even so, “Tho oi!” continues to hold the top position in revenue, ticket sales and number of screenings, with figures roughly double those of the second-ranked “Cam on nguoi da thuc cung toi.”
However, with VND6 billion (US$245,000) in revenue from 82,000 tickets across 3,100 screenings on March 3, the film’s seat occupancy rate is estimated at around 26 percent. This figure is considered relatively modest and reportedly lower than during the peak Tet Binh Ngo holiday period.
“Tho oi!” marks Tran Thanh’s fifth Tet theatrical release, featuring a cast that includes Phao, Lyly, Tran Thanh, Vinh Dam, Van Mai Huong and Quoc Anh.
The story follows Hai Linh, host of the talk show “Chi bo vai,” who specializes in offering relationship advice to anonymous guests.
Complications arise when Nhat Ha reveals a romantic upheaval involving Tran Kim and a tangled relationship with The Phong - Linh’s husband - triggering a cascade of personal and moral conflicts.
