According to a report from the Ha Giang Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue, a landslide triggered by heavy rains hit a stilt house in Ngam Dang Vai Commune, Hoang Su Phi District on the early morning of July 5. There were seven people inside the house at that time and two of them managed to flee before it collapsed. Rescue forces arrived and saved three others including two children while two others were found dead. The victims were identified as Ly Van Thang, 61, and his wife Vang Thi Thuong, 57.

The landslide also damaged two other houses in Vinh Quang Town. The Road 177 connecting two districts of Bac Quang and Hoang Su Phi has been blocked.

The northern region has been seeing heavy rains which mainly occurred in the afternoons and evenings over the past few days.

Heavy rains have also caused serious landslides in many areas of Thai Nguyen Province, blocking traffic on many roads in Dai Tu, Dinh Hoa, and Phu Luong districts. Over 19 hectares of rice have also been damaged.

Rains are forecasted to continue in the northern region in the afternoon and evening of July 5 with average rainfalls of between 20-60mm. Hail, whirlwind, and landslides may occur in some regions.
