Based on their results at the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup, the Vietnam women's national team has been placed in Pot 3 alongside Uzbekistan and Bangladesh.

Vietnam's best-ever men's football finish at the Asian Games came in 2018, when the U23 team finished fourth under head coach Park Hang Seo.

The women's national team also achieved its best result with a fourth-place finish at the 2014 Asian Games under head coach Mai Duc Chung.

VFF president appointed head of men's football competition

According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Tran Quoc Tuan, President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), AFC Executive Committee member and Chairman of the AFC Competitions Committee, has been appointed Head of the Men's Football Competition at the 2026 Asian Games.

The appointment is regarded as another milestone for Vietnamese football in terms of its growing role in football administration and tournament organization at the continental level.
