The students receive awards for their BKFace
The system can solve three major problems. First, it can recognize faces in a photo and give assessments about the age, sex and emotions. Second, it can authenticate faces to check if two faces in two photos are of the same person. Third, the system can give information about the person, including name, age, habits and other personal information.
The direct investors of the product are three male students from the IT Faculty of the Hanoi University of Science & Technology: Tran Trung Hieu, Le Tran Bao Cuong and Nguyen Tien Thao.

The two females in the group are from foreign trade and economics schools: Luu Thuy Hanh and Kieu Khanh Linh are in charge of marketing, financing, drawing up business strategy, and launching the product in the market.
The cooperation is ideal as it is between polytechnic students, who are familiar with codes and software, and business students, who can put useful products into commercialization.
Tran Trung Hieu, head of the group of students, said the inventors used Deep Learning, a new area of Machine Learning research, to create the product.
According to Hieu, BKface can be applied in many spheres of life. It can be used to recognize faces to control check-in and check-out, build a customer information system for better customer care, and support investigation bodies to detect suspicious individuals.
For investigation bodies, if they can develop big data, they can easily identify individuals, thus shortening the detection process.
To verify the capability of BKFace, reporters asked the system to recognize a face which is not in the database. It took the camera 10-15 seconds to take a picture of the face.
After that, the personal information of the person was entered into the system. Later, the person once again stood in front of the camera and the machine gave information in three to four seconds.
The creators said the outstanding feature of BKFace is the high accuracy level of up to 96 percent. It is much cheaper than imports of the same kind. BKFace, compared with NEC Corp’s product, for example, is 25-30 percent.
Dinh Van Phong, vice president of the Hanoi University of Science & Technology, praised the products for its potential for real application and commercialization. The first order from an enterprise came in August.
