From November 12 to 14, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien - Head of the Vietnamese Government's negotiation team - and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer are spearheading the latest round of discussions on a reciprocal, fair, and balanced trade agreement.
Following the 8th ministerial-level negotiation between Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and Trade Representative Greer on November 10, Deputy Minister Tan engaged in a working session to set the direction for the technical groups participating in this round.
The discussions took place in a frank, constructive, and open atmosphere, focusing on bilateral economic and trade relations, and the implementation of outcomes from the previous ministerial dialogue.
Deputy Minister Tan shared perspectives on the results of the 8th round and agreed on several focus areas for the technical working groups to address in order to achieve the highest possible outcome.
This marks a key next step in the negotiation process, providing direction for both delegations' technical teams and reflecting the shared commitment to fostering stable, balanced, fair, and sustainable trade cooperation.
Deputy Representative Rick Switzer acknowledged the positive strides made in Vietnam’s trade policies, institutional reforms, and global integration. He emphasized that strong collaboration between the two sides will facilitate a smoother negotiation process.
Both parties agreed to continue working closely together and enhancing communication among technical teams to move forward with the reciprocal trade agreement. This aligns with guidance from both countries’ top leaders and trade ministers, aiming to soon finalize a new bilateral trade framework that deepens the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States.
Immediately after the meeting, the respective negotiation teams swiftly began technical discussions according to the pre-established agenda.
