According to the latest report released by VAMA on the afternoon of March 10, total sales of vehicles by its members reached 19,278 units in February 2026, including 12,376 passenger cars, 6,542 commercial vehicles and 360 special purpose vehicles.

Compared with January 2026, when sales reached 36,875 units, total sales by VAMA members in February fell by 48 percent. The figure also represented a decrease of 10.8 percent compared with February 2025.

In terms of vehicle origin, sales of domestically assembled vehicles reached 9,220 units in February, down 49 percent from the previous month. Meanwhile, completely built imported vehicles totaled 10,058 units, a decline of 47 percent compared with January.

As a result, after domestically assembled vehicles briefly surpassed imported ones in December 2025, Vietnamese consumers returned to favoring imported cars during the first two months of 2026.

However, VAMA’s figures do not fully reflect the entire Vietnamese automobile market. Several car brands operating in Vietnam do not publicly disclose their sales figures. Among them, VinFast and Hyundai are two manufacturers with substantial sales volumes whose results are reported separately.

Specifically, VinFast delivered a total of 9,903 vehicles to customers in Vietnam in February, representing a decrease of 38.7 percent compared with January.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Thanh Cong Automobile Joint Venture recorded sales of 3,080 vehicles in February, down 47.5 percent from the previous month.

Because this year’s Lunar New Year holiday fell entirely within February, the nearly 50 percent drop in overall market sales had largely been anticipated.

During this period, buying and selling activity tends to slow significantly, temporarily cooling the market.

However, following the long holiday break, car purchasing demand has begun to recover. Many automakers and dealerships have launched promotional campaigns to stimulate demand, which is expected to bring renewed momentum to the market in the coming months.
