According to the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department's Criminal Police Division, the latest indictments are linked to two betting operations dismantled during the 2026 World Cup period.
Additional suspects charged
Authorities announced on July 13 that investigators had filed charges against 12 more suspects as the investigation continues.
To date, 97 people have been prosecuted in connection with the two football betting rings, which police allege were led by Huynh Le Thanh Long, Nguyen Viet Bao Long, Hua Ba An, Tran Le Tuan Kiet, Tran Anh Dung, Le Thanh Tien, Hoang Tan Phat and several associates.
Nationwide operation
The arrests followed a lengthy investigation by the Criminal Police Division, working alongside Lam Dong Provincial Police and police units from multiple localities.
Investigators simultaneously carried out raids and brought 150 people in for questioning over their suspected involvement in the betting networks.
According to police, the suspects admitted obtaining "master" betting accounts from operators based in Cambodia. They then divided those accounts into multiple agent and member accounts, which were distributed to gamblers in Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces through the online betting website Bong88.com.
Investigators said the syndicates operated through a sophisticated and tightly structured hierarchy, with clearly defined management levels.
More than US$134 million in betting transactions
Preliminary findings indicate that from October 2025 until the networks were dismantled, the two syndicates processed betting transactions worth more than VND3.5 trillion (US$134.1 million).
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine the roles of those allegedly involved.
