The disciplinary action was announced on May 12 during a meeting held at the Party Central Committee headquarters.
After reviewing the commission’s proposal regarding disciplinary measures against Party members, the Secretariat concluded that Nguyen Van Buong, former Secretary of the Party Committee and former Chief Judge of the High People’s Court in Da Nang; Vu The Phiet, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV); and Le Van Ha, former member of the provincial Party Committee and former Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Le Ho Ward in Ninh Binh Province, had shown political, moral and lifestyle degradation.

The Secretariat said the individuals had violated Party regulations and State laws in carrying out their assigned duties and responsibilities, particularly in anti-corruption, anti-wastefulness and anti-negative practices.
They were also found to have violated regulations on conduct prohibited for Party members and rules regarding accountability and exemplary conduct.
According to the Secretariat, the violations caused extremely serious consequences, triggered public outrage and severely damaged the reputation of Party organizations, local authorities and the agencies where the officials worked.
Based on the nature, severity, consequences and causes of the violations, and in accordance with Party disciplinary regulations, the Secretariat decided to expel Nguyen Van Buong, Vu The Phiet and Le Van Ha from the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The Secretariat also requested relevant authorities to promptly enforce administrative disciplinary measures in parallel with the Party’s disciplinary action.
Earlier, Nguyen Van Buong, former Chief Judge of the High People’s Court in Da Nang, was prosecuted and placed in temporary detention by the Supreme People’s Procuracy Investigation Agency on charges of accepting bribes under Clause 4, Article 354 of the Penal Code.
Vu The Phiet was also placed in temporary detention for investigation over alleged violations of bidding regulations causing especially serious consequences, as well as accusations of receiving money in exchange for creating favorable conditions for contractors to win bids in a case linked to Airports Corporation of Vietnam.
