Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has said that the compilation of a Vietnamese encyclopedia should be done in an open-minded and flexible manner in order to mobilise the engagement of participating scientists and the community.

The Deputy PM, who is also Chairman of the Steering Council for the compilation of the encyclopedia, made the remark at a meeting with heads of specialised compilation boards.
He said that the establishment of specialised compilation boards, each in charge of a specific subject such as agriculture and irrigation, medicine and pharmacy, information technology, aimed to create a platform for the compilation of the encyclopedia.
He asked for the launching of the Vietnam encyclopedia portal and online tools so that the scientific community can update and supplement the subjects of the encyclopedia.
Instead of following the traditional way in which a paper edition is published first and then updated via the online version, he suggested publicising subjects on the portal first to welcome assessment and feedback from scientists, managers and the public in order to complete the contents before publishing a printed version.
He stressed the significance of the compilation of the encyclopedia as it can provide international friends with comprehensive, systematic and accurate information about the land, people, history, society, culture, science and technology of Vietnam from the past to present.
