After losing to China in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Games, Vietnam entered the 5th-8th place classification round with Indonesia as their first opponent.

The two teams had recently met in the second leg of the 2026 SEA V Cup. Despite being considered the stronger side and taking a two-set lead, Vietnam eventually lost 3-2.

Indonesia also missed out on the Asian Games semifinals after a 3-0 quarterfinal defeat to Thailand. The rematch with Vietnam gave them another opportunity to prevail following their comeback victory at the SEA V Cup.

Before the match, Vietnam faced transportation problems after a vehicle provided by the organizers arrived late, preventing the team from reaching the venue on schedule. The match eventually began 30 minutes later than planned.

Vietnam then struggled on court, making a series of errors, particularly in serve reception, as coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team lost all three sets.

Indonesia took the opening set 25-20 after Vietnam struggled in both defense and attack. Even key attacker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy was unable to find her best form and made several errors.

Vietnam improved early in the second set and led 10-6, with Bich Thuy among the players contributing in attack.

Indonesia fought back to level the score at 10-10 before moving ahead at a crucial stage of the set.

Vietnam managed to draw level again at 20-20 but could not sustain the momentum, eventually losing the second set 25-21.

Indonesia carried that advantage into the third set, taking an early 4-2 lead.

Quynh Huong emerged as one of Vietnam's brighter performers in attack, but much of the team continued to struggle.

Indonesia maintained control and closed out the third set 25-18 to complete a 3-0 victory.

The result sends Indonesia into the 5th-6th place playoff, while Vietnam will compete for seventh place.
