Hanoi, Da Nang, and Nha Trang have been named among the world’s 50 most attractive tourist cities of 2025, according to the Global City Attractiveness Index (GCI).
The GCI rankings were jointly released by the Yanolja Research Institute (South Korea), H&T Analysis Center of Kyung Hee University (South Korea), and the Chriba Institute of Purdue University (USA).
The list is based on two main pillars: attractiveness and popularity - measured through online discussions - across 191 cities worldwide.
These pillars are further divided into four categories: urban beauty and natural scenery, culture and history, travel experiences, and hospitality.
Vietnam’s entries
In the 2025 list, Nha Trang ranks highest at 31st place, followed by Da Nang at 39th and Hanoi at 41st. All three cities improved their standings from 2024: Hanoi moved up from 35th, Da Nang from 46th, and Nha Trang from 47th.
In the hospitality category, Hanoi ranks 20th globally, Nha Trang 33rd, and Da Nang 36th. Notably, Ho Chi Minh City also appears in this category, ranking 34th despite not making the overall top 50.
In culture and history, Hanoi holds the 48th spot.
In urban beauty and natural landscapes, Nha Trang ranks 38th, while Hanoi and Da Nang are at 43rd and 49th respectively.
For tourism experience, Nha Trang excels in 18th place, followed by Da Nang (23rd) and Hanoi (35th).
According to the researchers, the GCI is designed to objectively assess a city’s appeal through social data analysis. It serves as a valuable tool for tourism marketing, policymaking, and business innovation.
