Fifteen ancient trees in Lao Cai, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Haiphong have been recognized as national heritage trees, including an ironwood which is around 1,100 years old, Vietnamplus reports.

The ironwood, which is in Ban Nghe, Xuan Luong Commune, Yen The District in the northern mountainous province of Bac Giang, is 45 meters high and its root has a diameter of nearly two meters. Bac Giang also has a 400-year-old bo tree which has a circumference of 7.9 meters and is 25 meters high in Dong Lo Hamlet, Dong Lo Commune, Hiep Hoa District.

The northern uypland province of Lao Cai has five Antiaris toxicaria trees aged from 200 to 300 years in Ken Temple, Chieng Ken Commune, Van Ban District. One of those five trees is 54 meters high and has a circumference of 11 meters.

The northern province of Bac Ninh has a bo tree which is over 400 years old and its circumference is over 10 meters. The tree is on the peak of Phu Luu Mountain in Dong Ngan Ward, Tu Son Town. Bac Ninh has three other ancient trees in Rong (dragon) Temple which worships Ly Chieu Hoang, the last empress of the Ly dynasty, in Dinh Bang Ward in Tu Son Town.

The northern port city of Haiphong has four ancient trees aged from 250 to 500 years in Cong My Temple and Chua Ba Temple in Nam Son Commune, An Duong District and in Thuy Tu Hamlet in Thuy Duong Commune, Thuy Nguyen District.

According to the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, the country now has 2,624 heritage trees.
