Hue finished fifth in the qualifying round on July 27, failing to secure a direct spot in the quarterfinals. Consequently, she had to compete in repechage round on July 28.

Fourteen rowers were divided into three groups, with the top two finishers from each group advancing. Hue was placed in the first group, which consisted of five competitors, and she consistently stayed in the lead along with Joanie Delgaco from the Philippines.

Initially falling behind, the Vietnamese rower made a strong effort to close the gap. By the 1000m mark, Pham Thi Hue was only 0.71 seconds behind her opponent. Delgaco then displayed superior endurance, gradually widening the gap to finish with a time of 7 minutes and 55 seconds. Pham Thi Hue finished second, 5.97 seconds later, but this was enough to secure her a spot in the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinals are scheduled for 14:55 on July 29 (Hanoi time).

Pham Thi Hue was born in 1988 in Quang Binh and later joined the national team at the West Lake Rowing Club in Hanoi. She has established herself as an exceptional rower, winning two silver medals at the 2013 Asian Games and six gold medals at the SEA Games. Remarkably, in 2015, she won a SEA Games gold medal while four months pregnant.

Before Paris 2024, Hue met the qualifying standards for the 2016 and 2020 Olympics but had to give up her spot to teammates in the doubles event due to each country's single-entry rule at the time. This time, with countries allowed up to two entries, Hue finally fulfilled her Olympic dream.
