The Ministry of Science and Technology has issued a directive requesting telecom providers to enhance communication infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity during large-scale events, particularly for the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam’s National Day on September 2 (A80 event).
The Ministry directed operators to expand domestic and international transmission capacity and bandwidth, deploy mobile BTS units, prepare for incident response, and coordinate in combatting telecom fraud and unlawful content distribution. Safety, security, fire prevention, and emergency rescue must also be ensured.
Providers must prepare to handle network congestion at peak usage times by expanding both bandwidth and infrastructure. Mobile BTS vehicles are being deployed to high-traffic public spaces such as squares, parks, walking streets, and firework display zones - especially where parades are expected - to handle surges in user demand and maintain uninterrupted services.
The Ministry also emphasized collaboration between network operators for mutual support in the same area when needed. This includes roaming agreements, infrastructure sharing, and coordinated emergency response to meet surging communication demands.
Authorities and telecom providers must work together to detect and prevent the misuse of telecom and internet networks for fraud, malware distribution, or illegal content sharing. Customers will also receive guidance on avoiding online scams and cybercrime aimed at defrauding or stealing property.
Approximately 2.9 million people are expected to gather in the parade area, with around 900,000 traveling from other provinces. Unlike normal days, demand will shift from simple browsing to livestreaming, video calls, and uploading high-resolution media.
Viettel has launched 500 new 5G BTS stations and, for the first time in Vietnam, deployed 1,200 small cell 5G units in crowded areas. Additionally, 700 temporary 4G stations and 25 mobile broadcast vehicles have been mobilized to support the public during the September 2 holiday.
In total, 1,700 new 5G stations - both large and small - are now in place to provide comprehensive 5G coverage at all parade locations and other National Day events. Small 5G cells placed along major streets will increase bandwidth and internet speeds in crowded areas while offloading traffic from the 4G network.
For the first time, Viettel engineers have used AI to predict high-traffic zones. By analyzing flight bookings, hotel data, event schedules, social media posts, and user engagement, AI models can forecast crowd density and timing. Network resources will be dynamically adjusted every 5 minutes, with AI automatically tuning signal direction to follow user movement and reduce interference in neighboring zones. If any broadcast station becomes overloaded, the system will redirect users to available nearby stations.
According to VNPT, the company has deployed 5,500 mobile base stations across Hanoi to strengthen VinaPhone’s network in 10 key areas hosting parades, major art performances, and central activities. VNPT has also added 1,100 4G cells, set up mobile broadcasting vehicles at 106 locations, and installed IBS/small cell systems at critical sites like the National Exhibition Center and Noi Bai Airport’s Terminal 2.
MobiFone announced its own series of advanced technological measures to ensure uninterrupted service and enhanced user experience during the A80 celebrations. These include the deployment of next-gen 5G integrated with AI for real-time traffic prediction and network optimization. The system automatically adjusts signal parameters to improve efficiency and minimize congestion.
MobiFone has also partnered with Japan's Rakuten to introduce the Open RAN 5G solution across its network, aiming to deliver the best possible experience to users.
In addition to deploying Open RAN and AI-enhanced systems, MobiFone has set up over 200 mobile broadcasting units and assigned hundreds of fully equipped engineers to be on-site around the clock. These efforts are to guarantee uninterrupted telecom and internet service throughout the national celebration.
