Vietnam’s national football team is gearing up for a crucial clash against Laos in the final match of 2025, with both sides exuding determination ahead of their encounter in the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers. While Vietnam eyes a vital three points to boost their campaign, Laos is aiming to surprise their more illustrious neighbors with a disciplined and passionate performance.
At the pre-match press conference, head coach Kim Sang Sik of Vietnam emphasized the importance of the upcoming match in Vientiane. “This is our last game of the year and also a significant one in the Asian Cup 2027 qualifying campaign. The team has prepared thoroughly, and all players are in peak condition. We aim for nothing less than a win,” Kim said.
The Vietnamese coach confirmed that striker Xuan Son, who has recently recovered from a 10-month injury, will be included in the lineup. “I’m grateful to his club Nam Dinh and his family for supporting him during recovery. His return gives us more attacking options. I hope he scores and brings joy to our fans,” Kim added.
Despite acknowledging that training conditions in Laos were not ideal, the coach noted that it had not affected the squad’s morale or preparation. “The players have trained well and remain highly focused. We are ready.”
Vietnamese captain Duy Manh echoed the coach’s sentiments, underlining the squad’s unity and goal: “We all know this is a key match. The team is fully committed to executing the tactical plans and securing three points.”
On the other side, Laos head coach Ha Hyeok Jun expressed confidence while remaining realistic about the task ahead. “Facing Vietnam is not easy, but we are ready. Our aim is to avoid mistakes, stay solid defensively, and make use of every chance we get,” said Ha.
Interestingly, both coaches share a personal history - being longtime friends from Busan, South Korea. Ha praised his counterpart’s work with Vietnam but noted he would still strive for a win, adding: “We respect Vietnam but won’t hold back. It’s a chance to learn and grow.”
Ha also praised Xuan Son but insisted Laos would not focus solely on one player. “Vietnam has many dangerous players. Whether it’s Xuan Son or Quang Hai, we will stick to our game plan.”
Reflecting on the broader regional context, Ha contrasted Vietnam’s approach to player development with that of teams like Malaysia. “Vietnam relies on homegrown talent rather than mass naturalization. I believe this gives them a sustainable advantage in the long run.”
The Vietnam vs. Laos match kicks off at 7:00 PM on November 19 at the National Stadium of Laos.
