Update news vietnam's birthrate
The Ministry of Health has proposed that women who give birth to two children, or men raising two biological children without a spouse, be given priority to buy or rent social housing.
Women in Ho Chi Minh City who give birth to two children before the age of 35 will now receive a financial support of 5 million VND (approximately USD 210), an increase of 2 million VND compared to the previous policy.
Vietnam's total fertility rate (TFR) dropped to a record low of 1.91 children per woman in 2024, signaling an urgent need for policies to address the declining birth rate and leverage the expertise of retirees to mitigate economic impacts.
Young people are delaying marriage and are reluctant to give birth, which is risking a population crisis for the country in the future.
A draft for the Law on Population has proposed that localities with low birth rates in Vietnam should provide financial support for women having a second child, as well as giving the children tuition exemptions.
The rate of cesarean sections in VN among pregnant women has been increasing over the past 15 years, reaching 37 percent in 2022, higher than the rate recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).
