On July 1, the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee announced that provincial leaders had signed a decision approving the investment policy and selected Nam Tien Company Limited to implement the project within Vietnam's territory.
The goal of this project, upon completion, is to ensure energy security for the 2021-2030 period, meet a portion of domestic coal consumption, and support economic development.
Additionally, the project aims to reduce customs clearance pressure at the La Lay International Border Gate and alleviate traffic congestion on National Highway 15D.
The People's Committee of Quang Tri Province has approved a coal conveyor line stretching 6,115 meters, connecting with the conveyor section in Laos. The line begins at the Vietnam-Laos border and ends at a warehouse in A Deng village, A Ngo commune, Dakrong district, Quang Tri province.
The project covers an expected land area of 23.82 hectares in A Ngo commune, with a design capacity of 30 million tons per year. Phase 1 will handle 15 million tons annually.
Phase 1:
- Construction start: Third quarter of 2025
- Equipment installation: Fourth quarter of 2026
- Operation start: First quarter of 2027
Phase 2:
- Construction start: Second quarter of 2030
- Equipment installation: Second quarter of 2031
- Operation start: Fourth quarter of 2031
The project involves a total investment of VND 1,489.27 billion (US$63 million). Equity capital accounts for 20% (VND 297.85 billion), while loans from commercial banks cover 80% (VND 1,191.41 billion). The project's operational period is set for 30 years from the approval date.
The demand for transporting coal from Laos to Vietnam through Quang Tri province is estimated at 20 to 30 million tons per year. However, due to unsynchronized infrastructure, Quang Tri is seeking a more efficient transportation route. The People's Committee of Quang Tri has proposed a transportation plan to the Government Office and the Ministry of Industry and Trade via the La Lay International Border Gate.
Nam Tien Company Limited was first registered on March 22, 2006, by the Thai Nguyen Department of Planning and Investment, with its 10th amendment on April 23, 2020. The company has a charter capital of VND 165 billion.
