A report published by online job service website Vietnamworks on March 13 indicated that engineers with professional skills in new technology fields such as blockchain and AI are earning the highest salaries, better than their counterparts in the same field.

Blockchain engineers are earning an average salary of US$2,241, while AI engineers are paid a salary of US$1,844, followed by full-stack web developers at US$1,642 a month.

Despite earning such fairly high salaries, workers in the information technology industry are unhappy.

Senior engineers working in HCMC expected their salaries to reach US$2,625, in lieu of the current US$1,550, a gap of over US$1,000.

Navigos Group CEO Gaku Echizenya said that the need for skilled workforce in the information technology field is rising, especially in the digitalization era, which has put firms under pressure to attract and retain talent.

The disparity in the salary levels in the local market is attributed to the lack of workforce in new technology fields, including blockchain and AI.
