A delegation from the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs recently visited Hanoi’s Buddhist Sangha, highlighting the religion’s role in building a modern and civilized capital.
On the afternoon of May 30, at Ba Da Pagoda in Hoan Kiem Ward, a delegation from the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Hai Trung visited and extended congratulations to the Hanoi chapter of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha on the occasion of Vesak 2570 (Buddhist Era), corresponding to 2026 in the Gregorian calendar.

The delegation was welcomed by Most Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Central Dharma Propagation Board, and Head of the Hanoi Buddhist Sangha Executive Board, along with senior members of the Standing Committee of the city's Buddhist Sangha Executive Board.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hai Trung conveyed his best wishes to Buddhist monks, nuns and followers for a peaceful and joyful Vesak season filled with spiritual harmony.
He acknowledged the practical contributions made by the Hanoi Buddhist Sangha in serving as an important bridge that helps bring the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws to monks, nuns, Buddhist followers and the wider public. Through religious activities and charitable and humanitarian work, the Sangha has contributed to strengthening cultural life at the grassroots level and reinforcing the great national unity bloc.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hai Trung acknowledged the practical contributions of the Hanoi Buddhist Sangha in working alongside authorities to build a cultured, civilized and modern capital.
The Deputy Minister also expressed his hope that Buddhist leaders would continue guiding monks, nuns and followers in promoting the tradition of patriotism, living by the values of being “good citizens and devoted believers,” and working alongside local authorities to build a cultured, civilized and modern capital.
In his response, Most Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem expressed his appreciation for the attention and support shown by leaders of the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs toward the Sangha and Hanoi’s Buddhist community on the occasion of Vesak.
He affirmed that, guided by the motto “Dharma - Nation - Socialism,” the Hanoi Buddhist Sangha has consistently promoted an engaged and socially responsible spirit, taking compassion as its foundation and wisdom as its mission, while joining hands with authorities at all levels to improve people's lives and contribute to building a peaceful, humane and sustainably developed society.

The Venerable added that this year’s Vesak celebrations were held solemnly and meaningfully at the headquarters of the Hanoi Buddhist Sangha Executive Board in Bat Trang Commune. He also shared his delight ahead of the upcoming city-level Buddhist Congress, noting that construction of the Capital Buddhist Cultural Center in Bat Trang Commune is expected to begin soon.
Once completed, the center will serve as a representative spiritual and cultural space, helping spread the positive values of Buddhism to the wider community.
On the occasion, the delegation offered incense and paid respects to the Buddha at the main hall before participating in the traditional Buddha bathing ceremony at Ba Da Pagoda.
