Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed a decision to impose a disciplinary warning on Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of the Ha Giang Provincial People’s Committee, for the 2021–2026 term, citing violations and shortcomings in his duties that had earlier led to disciplinary actions by the Communist Party.
The enforcement of this disciplinary measure is effective from the date of the decision's announcement by the Central Inspection Commission.
In September, during its 47th session, the Central Inspection Commission reviewed and concluded that the Standing Committee of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee for the 2020–2025 term and the Party Affairs Committee of the Provincial People's Committee for the 2021–2026 term had violated the principles of democratic centralism and working regulations.
The committees were found negligent in leadership and oversight, enabling the Provincial People's Committee and various organizations and individuals to commit serious violations of Party regulations and state laws during the implementation of the Tuyen Quang–Ha Giang Expressway project (package No. 4, undertaken by Thuan An Group).
Several officials and Party members, including key provincial leaders, breached regulations on actions prohibited for Party members and failed to uphold exemplary conduct.
These violations resulted in severe consequences, including risks of substantial financial and asset losses to the state, negative public opinion, and a decline in the credibility of local Party organizations and authorities. The gravity of these infractions necessitated disciplinary actions.
Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, was held personally accountable for the cited violations and shortcomings.
The Central Inspection Commission subsequently issued a disciplinary warning to Son.
