Nguyen Quang Dat, born in 1994, grew up in a poor family in Nam Truc Commune, Ninh Binh Province.

His father died from illness in 2000 when Dat was only six years old and his younger sister was four. For the past 26 years, their mother worked tirelessly to raise the two children on her own.

On May 11, Dat held his wedding ceremony. During the moment when family members and friends were presenting wedding gifts, an emotional scene unfolded that left the groom in tears.

It happened when Dat’s uncle, Ngoc Mieng, 80, stood up to deliver a speech and present a special wedding gift he had safeguarded for 26 years.

With a trembling voice, Mieng said: “I have been keeping a very special gift for my nephew all these years - a gift I have protected for 26 years without telling anyone. I kept this keepsake from his father and thought that I would only use it if his mother and children ever faced hardship beyond what our family could support. Now, my nephew is 32 years old, has a stable job, owns a car and is starting his own family. I have decided to return this gift to them today.”

The gift was four gold rings, each weighing one chi, equivalent to 3.75 grams.

Before passing away, Dat’s father entrusted the rings to his older brother, who carefully preserved them until his nephew’s wedding day.

As Dat received the gift from the father he had lost 26 years earlier, he could not hold back his tears.

Many guests attending the wedding were also deeply moved.

“For all these years, I never knew this gift existed, and neither did other family members. Receiving this gift from my father feels as though he is still watching over me and witnessing my happiest day. I am deeply grateful to my uncle for preserving such a precious keepsake,” Dat shared.

In front of relatives from both families, Mieng handed the four gold rings to Dat and his wife, fulfilling the final wish of his late younger brother.

Throughout the wedding preparations, Dat received tremendous support from relatives.

His uncle personally helped organize many of the wedding procedures with the bride’s family.

Thanks to his uncle’s support, Dat was able to have a complete and meaningful wedding ceremony.

After losing his father at an early age while his mother struggled with temporary jobs to support the family, Dat and his younger sister endured a difficult childhood.

But his greatest blessing during those years was the love and care he received from his uncles.

“My grandfather had eight children - four sons and four daughters. My father was the fifth child. After he passed away, my three uncles helped my mother and us tremendously. At first, they contributed rice every month, around 30 kilograms in total. Later, they pooled money together to help cover our living expenses. They also regularly bought clothes and gifts for us,” Dat recalled.

Mieng’s house stood right next to Dat’s home.

When Dat was 15 years old, he became absorbed in video games and neglected his studies.

Fearing his nephew might lose direction, Mieng brought him to live at his house and gave him a room upstairs where he could supervise him more closely.

Later, Dat left school and traveled across Vietnam looking for work.

Throughout those years, Mieng and other relatives continued supporting and encouraging him.

Today, Dat’s younger sister has started her own family, while Dat also has a stable job and a home of his own.

Life for their mother and children has improved significantly.

Whenever he thinks back on the years his uncles protected and cared for him, Dat becomes emotional.

“I am extremely grateful to my uncles. Even though I went through many hardships, I always felt the warmth of family and the love and protection of my relatives,” he said.
