The pavement of Le Phung Hieu Street in Hanoi has been leased.

Speaking at a recent meeting held by the municipal people's council, the city's deputy chairman, Duong Duc Tuan, said that they would lease pavements and roads for commercial and tourism services and the fees would be based on locations.

"Some districts have proposed the streets with sufficient infrastructure for the plan," the official said. "For example, Hoan Kiem District has proposed 36 locations on 10 streets, including 15 locations on five pedestrian streets of Dinh Tien Hoang, Hang Khay, Hang Bai, Nguyen Xi, and Le Thai To, and 21 locations on five other streets of Ly Thuong Kiet, Phan Chu Trinh, Ba Trieu, Le Phung Hieu, and Ngo Quyen."

The official added that only people who own houses on these streets are allowed to rent the area in front of their houses to run businesses and the area to be rented will extend two metres in length from the front of houses.

The southern metropolis HCM City has also planned to start leasing pavements for parking vehicles or doing businesses from January 1, 2024. Monthly fees will range from 20,000 to 100,000 VND per square metre for central routes and from 20,000 to 50,000 VND per square metre for other routes.
