Specifically, the company has released 22 tanks of original green algae into the lake. Each tank contained 100 litres of water with green algae.

The water with green algae was pumped out of the lake before it was dredged at the end of last year. It was preserved in the laboratory for rapid growth before being released into the natural environment.

Some scientists said the process would help revive the lake’s typical green colour.

Early this year, the company conducted the dredging of Hoan Kiem Lake. Thousands of cubic metres of muddy water were pumped out of the lake, but the water lost its iconic green colour at some places.

Hoan Kiem Lake is one of the country’s national heritage sites and top tourist destination with great historical value. The cleanup project will need approval from the culture ministry before it can go ahead. — VNS
