HCMC aims to cut off non-biodegradable plastic bags in supermarkets, shopping malls and markets, collect and recycle plastic bags produced from household activities this year, according to the city Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

According to the goal, the city firstly strives to reduce 65 percent non-biodegradable plastic bags in supermarkets and shopping malls and 50 percent in markets.

Secondly, the city will collect and recycle 50 percent of non-biodegradable plastic bags which are produced from household activities.

Moreover, all industrial parks and export processing zones will be installed with centralized wastewater treatment and automatic monitoring systems.

By 2020, Ho Chi Minh City will work to achieve the next 10 goals. Specifically, all hospitals will be provided with wastewater treatment systems that meet the national environmental standard, 80 percent of domestic wastewater will be treated and 70 percent of polluted emissions will be cut off.

Besides, all communes take part in building new countryside program. More importantly, 90 percent of contaminants will be excluded from the water supply.

Last but not least, the city will adopt new technology in solid waste treatment, and bury properly 60 percent of solid waste.
