Known as the filming location for several mystery-themed productions, Sao Ha, a remote Hmong settlement in Van Chai Hamlet, Yen Minh Commune, Tuyen Quang Province, has become a popular tourist destination under the nickname "Hell Village."
.
Nestled within approximately 500 hectares of ancient forest in Yen Minh, at an altitude of nearly 2,000 meters, Sao Ha is home to more than 20 households, all belonging to the Hmong ethnic community. In the Hmong language, Sao Ha means "Valley in the Highlands."
Sao Ha gained widespread attention after serving as the filming location for the Vietnamese horror series Tet o Lang Dia Nguc (Hellbound Village), released in 2023. The village has since become an increasingly popular destination for tourists seeking memorable photographs.
Years ago, the road leading to Sao Ha was notorious for its difficult terrain, making the journey a demanding test of endurance. Today, the former dirt trails have been replaced by a concrete road, making the village considerably more accessible.
A narrow road winds through lush green bamboo forests, creating a picturesque setting along the journey to the village.
Two small shrines stand at the entrance to Sao Ha, marking the arrival point for visitors exploring the mysterious "Hell Village."
The peaceful scenery of Sao Ha is characterized by traditional houses that preserve the distinctive architectural heritage of the Hmong ethnic community.
Residents of Sao Ha lead simple lives amid the mountains and forests, where traditional Hmong cultural practices remain an integral part of everyday life.
