Apple is reportedly preparing one of the most significant design overhauls in the iPhone’s history, with the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max potentially featuring considerably larger displays and glass curved around all four edges.
The devices could also mark a special milestone for Apple, arriving 20 years after the original iPhone made its debut.
iPhone 20 Pro Max could have the largest display in iPhone history

If the latest leaks prove accurate, iPhone users may need a little more room in their pockets next year.
Digital Chat Station, a well-known anonymous technology leaker on Chinese social media platform Weibo who has previously shared notable information about Apple, recently claimed that the iPhone 20 Pro will feature a 6.41-inch display, while the iPhone 20 Pro Max will have a 6.96-inch screen, both measured diagonally.
For comparison, the current iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have 6.27-inch and 6.86-inch displays, respectively. Apple typically rounds those figures to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches when announcing its products.
If the leaked specifications prove accurate, the iPhone 20 Pro’s screen would grow by about 0.14 inches, while the iPhone 20 Pro Max would gain around 0.10 inches compared with the current generation. Those increases may not look dramatic on paper, but with Apple continuing to shrink display bezels, the usable screen area could expand considerably.
Notably, the iPhone 20 Pro Max would come very close to the 7-inch mark, making it one of the largest-display iPhones Apple has ever produced.
Meanwhile, the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which is expected to go on sale on Oct. 23, features a 7.6-inch inner display when fully unfolded. This suggests Apple is exploring different approaches to expanding screen real estate across the iPhone lineup.
A larger display could give Apple room to raise prices
A bigger screen offers clear advantages for watching videos, gaming, editing content and working on the go. However, the increase in size could also lead to higher manufacturing costs and retail prices.
According to CNET, large displays can be particularly useful for entertainment and productivity on the move, but they can also provide technology companies with justification for raising product prices.
The fact that the iPhone 20 is expected to commemorate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary could give Apple further scope to position design changes such as a larger display and an almost entirely glass body as reasons for a higher price.
That is significant because Apple is unlikely to treat the iPhone 20 as merely another routine hardware upgrade. A striking new design could become the centerpiece of its campaign celebrating two decades of the iPhone.
iPhone 20 Pro could become a seamless block of glass
Beyond the larger displays, the most significant rumored change concerns the exterior design.
Digital Chat Station has also reinforced information reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in August, suggesting that the new premium iPhones will feature an almost entirely glass exterior with a “quad-curved” design, meaning the glass curves around all four edges.
Under this approach, glass would not only cover the front and back but also curve into the sides of the device. The result could make the display borders almost disappear when viewed head-on, creating the impression that the iPhone is a seamless block of glass.
According to Gurman’s earlier report, the front and rear glass would “curve into the sides of the device,” while a metal band would remain in the middle to provide structure and rigidity.
If Apple brings the concept to market, it would represent a major departure from the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which use an aluminum frame combined with ceramic glass on the body.
The new design could also give Apple a distinctly different look for its 20th-anniversary iPhone generation rather than relying primarily on specification or camera upgrades.
Dynamic Island could shrink further
Alongside larger screens and curved glass, the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max are also rumored to feature a smaller Dynamic Island.
Digital Chat Station says the area will be significantly reduced, while the front of the phone could feature a very small punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera.
Dynamic Island is currently the pill-shaped area at the top of the iPhone display. In addition to housing the front-facing camera, the interface can expand and contract to display notifications, system alerts and ongoing background activities.
Shrinking Dynamic Island could free up additional display space, particularly as Apple simultaneously increases screen sizes and moves toward an almost bezel-free design.
If Apple does place the selfie camera inside a smaller punch-hole cutout, it would represent another step in the company’s efforts to reduce the amount of screen space occupied by front-facing components.
The iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max are expected to launch in September 2027. The timing could be particularly significant, as Apple is reportedly planning to skip the iPhone 19 name and move directly to iPhone 20, marking 20 years since the first iPhone appeared in 2007.
If the current rumors prove accurate, Apple could turn the iPhone 20 into one of the most dramatically redesigned iPhone generations to date.
