
The latest leaks suggest Apple could make a major change to the display design of the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max, setting the two models expected in 2027 significantly apart from today's iPhones.
Notably, the latest information once again points to a nearly 7-inch display for the Pro Max while revealing further potential changes to screen size and display technology. If accurate, the iPhone 20 could represent one of Apple's biggest leaps in iPhone display design in years.
iPhone 20 Pro could move up to a 6.4-inch display
According to prominent leaker Digital Chat Station, Apple is developing at least two major display changes for the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max.
For the iPhone 20 Pro, Apple is reportedly considering a 6.4-inch display, slightly larger than the 6.3-inch screen on the iPhone 17 Pro. An increase of 0.1 inches may not sound substantial, but it could still result in a slightly larger overall device.
Notably, Apple is expected to retain the current aspect ratio. That means the new display would likely expand proportionally rather than simply becoming taller or wider.
This approach could allow Apple to increase screen real estate while preserving the familiar feel of using an iPhone.
The trade-off, however, is that the phone itself could also become larger, particularly if Apple does not significantly reduce the bezels around the display.
iPhone 20 Pro Max could reach 7 inches
The more significant change could come with the iPhone 20 Pro Max. Digital Chat Station has once again repeated claims that Apple is considering a 7-inch display for its highest-end iPhone.
If that happens, it would represent a substantial jump for the iPhone Pro Max. Current iPhones are already relatively large, and a 7-inch display would push the iPhone closer to the boundary between smartphones and devices such as smaller-screen iPads.
Like the iPhone 20 Pro, the iPhone 20 Pro Max is expected to maintain the current display aspect ratio. A 7-inch screen, therefore, would not simply mean making the phone taller, but could involve a relatively balanced increase in both height and width.
The larger display could provide more room for watching videos, gaming, editing photos or using AI applications. At the same time, its size could raise questions about usability, particularly for people who frequently operate their phones with one hand.
Four-sided curved, nearly bezel-free display remains in the picture
Beyond screen size, Digital Chat Station has also reinforced previous rumors that Apple's 20th-anniversary iPhone could feature a nearly bezel-free display curved around all four edges.
Reports of this design began circulating in early 2026 and resurfaced in reports in May. If Apple does adopt the technology, the iPhone 20 Pro Max could look dramatically different from today's iPhones.
A four-sided curved display could allow Apple to minimize the bezels and create the impression of the screen flowing all the way to the edges of the device. It could also become one of the signature design changes Apple introduces for a product marking 20 years since the original iPhone.
However, turning such a design into a commercial product would require Apple to address several challenges, including durability, impact resistance, display performance along the curved edges and manufacturing costs.
iPhone 20 Pro Max could improve battery efficiency with new display chip
Alongside a larger screen and redesigned appearance, Apple is reportedly preparing a significant upgrade to the technology behind the iPhone 20 Pro Max's OLED display.
An earlier report from ETNews said Apple could adopt a new display driver chip responsible for managing how individual pixels operate. The component plays an important role in both display performance and power consumption.
According to the report, Apple's current display driver chip is manufactured using a 28nm process, while the next-generation component could move to a 16nm process.
Moving to a smaller manufacturing process could allow the chip to operate more efficiently and consume less power. Combined with other improvements to the OLED panel, the iPhone 20 Pro Max could potentially deliver both a larger display and better energy efficiency.
This would be particularly important because larger screens typically consume more power. If Apple can keep energy consumption under control, it could partly offset one of the key disadvantages of increasing the display size.
If all the current leaks prove accurate, the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max could bring significant changes in both design and technology - potentially attracting even more attention than Apple's foldable iPhone.
